Leveling the ground before installing a metal building is a crucial step to ensure the stability and longevity of your structure. Each project is unique in itself however we’ve come up with an easy checklist that fits most customers.
Here are some things to consider when leveling your ground:
Determine The Slope:
The first step is determining the slope of the area where you want to install your metal building. A level area is the best option, but if you have a slope, it should not exceed 5% to ensure proper drainage.
Remove Debris:
Clear the area of any debris, rocks, or vegetation that may cause unevenness in the ground.
Fill Low Spots:
Fill any low spots with gravel or compacted soil to achieve an even surface. Be sure to level the area after filling.
Compact The Soil:
The soil should be compacted to provide a solid foundation for your metal building. A plate compactor is a useful tool for this step.
Install A Vapor Barrier:
A vapor barrier helps prevent moisture from seeping into your metal building. Make sure to install it before adding gravel or concrete.
Add Gravel or Concrete:
Once the soil is level and compacted, you can add gravel or concrete to create a solid foundation for your metal building.
